Ecological Gifts
An Ecological Gift or Ecogift is a donation of land or a partial interest in land, such as a conservation easement, covenant, or servitude. In order for an Ecogift to meet the requirements of the Ecological Gifts Program, the federal Environment Minister must certify the land as ecologically sensitive, approve the recipient to receive the gift, and certify the fair market value of the donation.
The Niagara Land Trust has been approved as a recipient of Ecogifts by Environment Canada. We can arrange to have professional volunteers conduct a thorough review of your property to determine if your property could qualify as an Ecogift.
Ecological Gifts can be claimed by the donor as an income tax credit which can be taken over the period of five tax years. For complete information on the tax benefits and how to qualify for Ecogifts, visit Environment Canada’s webpage.
